At TRL Krosaki, reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions is a top strategic priority. We have set an ambitious goal of achieving Net Zero emissions on or before 2050 and are continuously transforming our business practices to support this commitment.

One of our most significant sustainability initiatives has been the transition from pet coke, coal, and fuel oil to natural gas, resulting in a substantial reduction in carbon emissions. TRL Krosaki is proud to be the first refractory company in the world to adopt natural gas across its manufacturing operations, demonstrating industry leadership in sustainable manufacturing.

Additionally, TRL Krosaki has entered into renewable power purchase agreements (PPAs) to increase the use of clean energy and further reduce its environmental footprint. Through these initiatives and ongoing innovation, we are advancing toward a low-carbon future while delivering sustainable value to our stakeholders.

To strengthen our climate action framework, we regularly assess and manage our GHG emissions across all applicable categories, including Scope 1, Scope 2, and Scope 3 emissions, in line with globally accepted reporting standards.

Driving Decarbonization Through Cleaner Energy

As part of its commitment to sustainable manufacturing and environmental stewardship, TRL Krosaki has transitioned to natural gas as the primary fuel source at its Belpahar plant, replacing pet coke, coal, and fuel oil . With this transformation, TRL Krosaki became the first refractory company in the world to adopt such a significant fuel transition at this scale.

This pioneering initiative has resulted in a reduction of more than 40% in direct greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions , significantly lowering the environmental footprint of our operations. The shift to cleaner energy not only enhances operational sustainability but also reinforces our commitment to responsible manufacturing and climate action.

Advancing Circularity Through Green Refractory Materials

At TRL Krosaki, sustainability is embedded in our manufacturing philosophy. We are continuously working to reduce the consumption of virgin raw materials by increasing the use of green refractory materials, including used refractory bricks, process waste, and rejected bricks generated during production.

By recovering, recycling, and reusing these materials, we are integrating the principles of the circular economy into our operations. Since these materials have already undergone primary processing, the energy required to convert them into finished products is significantly lower, resulting in a substantial reduction in resource consumption and greenhouse gas emissions.

Currently TRL Krosaki is using more than 18% of Green Refractory material demonstrating our commitment to responsible resource management and sustainable manufacturing. This initiative not only helps conserve natural resources but also contributes to reducing our environmental footprint and supporting our long-term sustainability goals.
